General Overview:

The Assistant Vice President of Legal & Compliance will play a crucial role in leading the company's Legal & Compliance Department, serving as a strategic advisor to the Vice President of Legal & Compliance. This individual will be responsible for supervising the Compliance team and managing risk management initiatives for the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Compliance team within the Legal Department, including managing the Director of Compliance and their team, conducting internal and external compliance audits, preparing State Regulatory Reports, assisting in implementing new rules and regulations, and liaising with state regulators for market conduct examinations and complaints.
  • Lead and manage the handling and resolution of customer complaints, mentoring the compliance team throughout the process.
  • Conduct internal compliance audits, as well as audits of Managing General Agents,Third-Party Administrators, and applicable vendors, while providing guidance and mentorship to the compliance team.
  • Stay up-to-date with evolving laws, regulations, and industry standards, developing governance and processes to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Serve as the designated privacy and information security subject matter expert, overseeing the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide privacy program, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), communication, and employee training.
  • Function as the incident response coordinator for situations requiring a company response related to privacy or cybersecurity.
  • Lead the corporate risk management committee in identifying, assessing, and managing potential risks that could impact the organization's business operations and financial performance.
  • Keep the Vice President of Legal and other key stakeholders informed about corporate litigation and significant risk management issues.
  • Attend executive committee and stakeholder meetings in the absence of the Vice President of Legal, serving as the second in command.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor corporate counsel and legal and compliance staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience as an attorney in the Property and Casualty industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Admitted to the State Bar.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
