The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now hiring a HVAC Technician - Kitchen Specialist at the Daytona Beach campus. This position is responsible for providing world-class customer service in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing commercial food equipment and appliances (grills, ovens, fryers, etc.), HVAC systems, and refrigeration (reach-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, AHUs, etc.).

Responsibilities include:

  • To service and maintain heating, air conditioning, and related equipment on the Daytona Beach Campus.
  • Provide elite customer service and professionally communicate the service needed to customers.
  • Define service problems, collect data, establish facts, and enter accurate information into a tablet.
  • Follow safe work practices and accident prevention procedures.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly truck and a good part and tool inventory.
  • Ensure efficient and safe operation of all HVAC equipment. Responsible for maintaining a secure environment on and around mechanical equipment and reporting discrepancies. Follow directions for installation and service from the Supervisor.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Formal diploma/certificate/degree program of 6-18 months after high school (HVAC schooling in place of actual work experience will be considered).

Required licenses, certificates, and/or security clearances:

  • Must possess a universal refrigerant recovery license (from E.P.A. approved testing agency).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. *See approved driver's details below on insurance requirements

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of related work experience in HVAC.
  • Must be able to read blue prints, make calculations, and keep records.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required.
  • Ability to service gas equipment (propane and natural}. Knowledge of local and state laws.
  • Possess normal vision, hearing and physical dexterity. Ability to do some heavy lifting.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry HVAC equipment short distances push or pull a hand cart. Eye hand coordination essential for proper operation of power tools, etc.
  • Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding and work in overhead areas on HVAC equipment and components.
  • Ability to comprehend basic instructions and to respond effectively.
  • Employee must take necessary precautions due to the nature of the equipment he is working on (electrical, propane, natural gas, power tools, etc.) to protect himself and those around him of the hazards associated with this type of work.
  • At least two years of HVAC technical schooling or three years experience in the maintenance of heating, air conditioning and related equipment.

Requirements to be able to drive a university vehicle:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. In some instances, a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required.
  • Must meet the University's standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):
    • More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years.
    • More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year.
    • A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.
