Job Summary

The Electrical Panel Technician must have ability to build according to schematics and layout drawings with limited requirements for build notes and instruction, without direct supervision. The Electrical Panel Technician has a thorough understanding of wire sizing, selection, and installation. He / She will be responsible for guiding the assembler throughout the build process. Wire and/or modify panels and enclosures and mount components for complex electrical/electronic control systems, which may include extensive and involved circuitry. These systems are usually modular, repeatable assemblies where high quality workmanship, extreme care and accuracy are required to meet customer expectations.

Job Description

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Sectional Physical Assembly

  • Create labels
  • Unpack components and inspect, placing documentation in designated bin
  • Build subassemblies
  • Unpack / Remove mounting panel, and place on a horizontal work surface (unless working with non-removable exterior enclosure surface)
  • Support Perforex CNC Machine operations (panel and enclosure cutting and drilling)
  • Fasten components to mounting panel
  • Label devices (Place device ID labels on mounting panel near device)
  • Add accessories to components
  • Guide Assembler throughout the build process

Individual Section Wiring

  • Print wire labels
  • Wire point to point per schematic, selecting the appropriate wire color and type, stripping both ends of wire, affixing wire label (consistent with shop standards) at both ends and terminating
  • Perform wire tug test to verify that terminals are tightened properly

Integrated Physical Assembly

  • Unpack and bolt together enclosure components
  • Install sectional assembly into integrated assembly
  • Support Perforex CNC Machine operations (panel and enclosure cutting and drilling)
  • Fabricate custom conductors (solid busbar, flexible busbar, cables, signal wire, etc.) using tools such as hydraulic shear, hydraulic press, band saw, jig saw, drill press, belt sander, hand drill, hydraulic crimpers, hydraulic hole punch and soldering iron.

Integrated Wiring

  • Follow wiring standards to complete circuits that run panel to panel, or panel to enclosure mounted devices
  • Perform wire tug test to verify that terminals are tightened properly

Work Verification

  • Perform point to point check at completion of the job, utilizing the drawings to verify correct assembly and wiring
  • Perform wire tug test to verify that terminals are tightened properly

Repairs and Change Implementation

  • Perform repairs and changes as discovered in Pre-Ship Test and Verification
  • Perform repairs and changes as discovered in Final Inspection

SAFETY

  • Attend and adhere to all required safety training and documentation provided according to facility policies and guidelines

ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Dispose Universal Waste according to facility policies and guidelines

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

  • Adhere to quality management standards according to facility policies and guidelines

Training

  • Inform your supervisor of any training needed such that your knowledge and skills are adequate for creating goods and services that meet the customer's expectations
  • Seek assistance from Supervisor or Engineer when questions arise regarding the design (drawings or bill of material) to ensure the assembly is built as intended
  • Obtain training on the proper use of all tools required to complete tasks
  • Attend assigned training courses
  • Demonstrate to your supervisor that the training was effective
  • Document completed training according to facility policies and guidelines

Performance and Time

  • Create measurable objectives that are in-line with the company's goals as a means towards continual improvement
  • Execute tasks related to your personal objectives
  • Document time spent on all work tasks weekly and submit to your supervisor for approval
  • Build assemblies within estimated times, avoiding distractions
  • Build assemblies in accordance with the design documents, avoiding errors resulting in rework

Facility and Work Environment

  • Inform your supervisor or General Manager of any maintenance required to the facility
  • Maintain good standards of housekeeping within the work area, both in your work area and in general areas of the facility
  • Return all tools and equipment to their designated locations after use
  • Remove all waste materials or unnecessary documentation, tools or equipment from the work area
  • Disable or tag any faulty equipment - report the faulty equipment to your supervisor
  • Report any health and safety concerns / observations to your supervisor or the General Manager

Non-Conforming Product

  • Identify non-conforming product (internally created or purchased from an outside supplier or sub-contractor)
  • Quarantine and/or tag non-conforming product as a means of keeping the product from being delivered to the customer
  • Report non-conforming product by informing your supervisor

In-Process Verification Tools

  • Verify tools requiring calibration have been calibrated within the specified calibration interval for the given tool prior to each use
  • Tag and remove from service all tools requiring calibration that have not been calibrated within the specified calibration interval

Product Realization

  • Complete all sections of the Assembly & Wiring Checklist for each assembly built
  • Utilize Job Traveler to document all project issues and issue status
  • Handle Customer Property with care
