Qualifications
Construction Inspector Education and Experience
  • High School diploma/GED and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, utility construction and inspection, site or land development, construction materials testing, and/or transportation infrastructure construction, maintenance and/or repair; or
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, construction management, project management or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, utility construction and inspection, site or land development, construction materials testing, and/or transportation infrastructure construction, maintenance and/or repair.
Licenses or Certifications
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
  • FDEP Storm water, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control (or FSA Storm water Operator 1 required within 3 months or hire/promotion.
  • OSHA 10-hr safety training required within 3 months of hire/promotion.
  • FDOT Intermediate MOT required within 6 months of hire/promotion.
Key Responsibilities
  • Inspects infrastructure, maintenance and capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with regulations, recognizes potential problems and violations, discusses necessary modifications/changes and ensures corrective measures are carried out.
  • Inspects projects for quality of work, proper applicant/contractor credentials/licenses, and proper use and application of materials, mechanical and specialized equipment.
  • Reviews plans, specifications, diagrams, and related data prior to, during, and upon project completion to establish compliance with regulations and approved construction plans.
  • Consults/discusses with contractors, department administrators, field personnel, engineers, design personnel, project managers and regulatory agencies for the purpose of coordinating sequencing of project tasks, establishing compliance, providing/exchanging information concerning project(s) and necessary modifications.
