Position Summary: The Outreach Prevention Specialist administers client assessments; evaluates and assesses immediate needs; coach's clients in the development of self-sufficiency plans as needed and functions as a liaison between clients and community service providers following Prevention and Diversion process. The Prevention Specialist will ensure clients are assessed according to the Outreach Policies and Procedures with an additional focus on screening clients in need of Financial Special Assistance, Prevention Diversions and Case Management in a timely and efficient manner.


Essential Responsibilities:

1. Provide Prevention and Diversion services as necessary to Outreach families ensuring that all services are in line with data collection and the reporting is timely and accurate.

2. Perform financial assistance assessments submitting requests while staying within budgetary guidelines.

3. Directly responsible for assessing clients, training of volunteers and interns and providing client evaluations for determining services and approve those services based on policy, procedure, and guidelines. Take an active role in ensuring data collection is being performed based on department guidelines and reporting of data is timely and accurate. Ensure services are offered with a smooth and timely client flow exercising good stewardship and ensure Mission statement is fulfilled with each client interaction.

4. Prescreens applicants to determine services needed submitting requests for Financial Assistance when funds are available, and applicants qualify. Provides community resource information regarding other agencies, organizations, and ministries to meet varying needs of clients.

5. Manage all client information in a professional manner, exemplifying all professional confidentiality standards. Monitor utilization of Clarity (HMIS) usage for verification of Clarity number and services received in Clarity Database. Ensure all data is being entered accurately.

6. Manages East Pasco Campus Financial Prevention Grants following guidelines for EFSP, ESG, TEFAP, ASO, ARPA and private funding grants while maintaining accurate and current spending logs.

7. Assists East Pasco Campus Staff with day-to-day operations, volunteer training and offer leadership when support is needed.

8. Participates in Metropolitan Ministries' events and holiday efforts and other fundraising events when needed and for all other duties as assigned.


Requirements


Education and Experience:

A minimum of an AA diploma or equivalent work experience and experience working with families and individuals who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or have mental health/substance abuse issues preferred. Minimum of two years' experience in social services or closely related field. Must be willing to continue education on homeless population and continue enhancing professional skills by taking initiative attending appropriate job-related seminars, conferences, and workshops.


Skill Requirements:

Requires heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families and individuals. Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong inter-personal skills, and the ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner. Knowledge of community resources available to homeless population. Ability to deescalate clients on the edge of verbal or physical violence. Ability to work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework. Ability to manage other employees and volunteers. Demonstrates strong computer literacy with ample experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Bookings) and existing knowledge or ability to learn new client databases. Requires customer service with oral and written communication skills. Bi-lingual a plus, but not required.


Physical Requirements:

Must have adequate hearing and speaking ability. Must be capable of working outdoors in sunlight and higher temperatures on occasion. Must have the physical, emotional, and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. or more.


Other:

Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must pass required background pre-employment screening. Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
