Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Five (5) years of combined experience in the field of construction or related field inspection or plans review.
Licenses or Certifications
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
Provisional Building Inspector - $48,776.00 Min - $76,336.00 Max
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire, a provisional license issued by the State of Florida in one (1) of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or 1&2 Family.
Building Inspector I - $51,230.40 Min - $80,121.60 Max
  • Certification as a Building Inspector by the State of Florida in one (1) of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical.
Building Inspector II - $53,768.00 Min - $84,136.00 Max
  • Certification as a Building Inspector by the State of Florida in two (2) of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, or a Plans Examiner License.
Building Inspector III - $56,451.20 Min - $88,358.40 Max
  • Certification as a Building Inspector by the State of Florida in three (3) or more of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or a Plans Examiner License.
Key Responsibilities
  • Performs skilled inspection and certification of new, existing, and altered buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the state and municipality's building codes for the Department of Community Development.
  • Employees in this class possess considerable knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and principles, as well as applicable municipal, regional, and state regulatory practices.
  • Work involves technical examinations and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work.
  • Inspections are conducted independently but in accordance with Building Division regulations and established technical standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
