This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.

We are in search of a Technical Writer to communicate the technical aspects of Test and Flight Operations capabilities, policies, processes, and procedures with both highly technical and non-technical audiences. One of the key contributions of our Technical Writer will be to provide documentation of policies and procedures within the Test and Flight Operations (TFO) organization at Blue Origin.

The Sr. Technical Writer will collaborate with engineering and technical staff to prepare technical documentation for technical memos, business policies, business rhythms, management operations systems, procedures, testing, operations, engineering, and TFO communications. Additionally, you will develop and promote the adoption of documentation templates for management operations which may include TFO wide briefings, companywide memos, operations review templates, and associated documents. This role will function as a primary writer-responsible for deliverables of substantial scope and complexity!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee team collaboration with Development, Product Management, and other groups to plan, research, write, and revise printed and online documentation.
  • Write for a variety of audiences, from non-technical audiences.
  • Prepare, review, revise, and maintain TFO company memos, strategy documents, technical documents.
  • Prepare, review and revise management policies, and management presentations.
  • Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing processes within the Test and Flight Operations organization. Generate decision documents, and project management guides to document TFO decisions and guidance.
  • Write, format, edit, review, and proof procedural and technical information for technical and nontechnical users.
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates and client deliverables.
  • Maintain a library of TFO documentation, manage and ensure data is maintained in Windchill, SharePoint and Wiki sites.
  • Publish and maintain templates for written documentation produced by others ensuring a consistent "look and feel" corporate style according to Blue Origin marketing guidance. Proofread technical documentation generated within the TFO organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Technical Communication or related field, or at least five years of experience in writing complex documentation for web-based software.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including willingness and ability to consult with subject matter experts from engineering, support, and product management.
  • 5-7 years of experience required in a project management with Space technology development environment.
  • Experience in capturing documentation for audiences with different levels of technical skill.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to create basic schedules in Microsoft Project or other industry acceptable project tool.
  • Experience in presenting technical information in a live corporate setting, such as classroom training, presentations, or video conference.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
