Job Description

Provides oversight of the operations of the Central Monitoring Unit to include resolution of concerns related to human resources, telemetry capacity, scheduling issues, and equipment functionality. Works closely and serves as a communication liaison with all departments that provide telemetry monitoring. Responsible for the departmental processes that support accurate record keeping, observation of telemetry monitors, and prompt identification and escalation of cardiac rhythm changes to appropriate nursing personnel. May perform the duties of a Monitor Technician as needed. In the absence of the manager, may assume 24-hour responsibility for the department.

  1. Interviews, trains, orients, counsels, evaluates, and administers disciplinary action.
  2. Recommends hiring decisions and disciplinary actions to manager.
  3. Supervises Central Monitoring Unit staffing and daily operational activities. 24-hour responsibility for appropriate staffing and scheduling for department. Schedules personnel, approves paid time off (PTO) and monitors time and attendance.
  4. Responsible for maintaining annual staff competencies and managing the orientation and on-boarding process for new Monitor Technicians..
  5. Identifies educational opportunities for staff, secures resources, and coordinates education.
  6. Manages /telemetry equipment to include coordination of upgrades, identification of equipment issues, and coordinates resolution with biomedical engineering.
  7. Manages inventory of telemetry transmitters.
  8. Continually evaluates workflow, processes, and any opportunities for improvement within the department and reports to management.
  9. Participates in the department quality and performance improvement activities.
  10. Assists in the development of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  11. Regularly performs the duties and responsibilities of a Monitor Technician.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned

*Shift: 4x10 hr shifts*

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  1. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with one (1) year of nursing experience in area of specialty.
  2. Associates Degree with three (3) years' clinical experience OR Bachelor's in Nursing with Two (2) years' clinical experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and make appropriate clinical and supervisory decisions. Must possess good problem solving skills.
  4. Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  5. Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  6. Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required based on department needs.
  7. Demonstrated competency in EKG/arrhythmia interpretation
  8. Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) or CCT within 6 months of employment

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  1. 1 year supervisory experience preferred
  2. National certification in specialty area
