ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Curriculum development;
  • Preparing, instructing and grading all class coursework;
  • Assigning grades;
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a specific teaching discipline;
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written;
  • Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensive way;
  • Ability to recognize and to respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds as well as the willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with the ability to operate a 15 passenger van;
  • Proven experience in utilizing computers in the classroom with a willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to the teaching of specific discipline(s).

Preferred:

  • Two to five years teaching experience in Secondary and/or post-secondary institutions.
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS)

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructing assigned classes as well as grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments;
  • Delivering grades and grade justification sheets;
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students;
  • Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;
  • Participating in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate a 15 passenger institutional van, standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
