KLJ is actively seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Municipal Team in Rapid City, SD). The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise with planning, design, modeling, plan production, and QC/QA protocols for SDDOT, municipalities, and counties. The Senior Civil will lead and mentor teams in design and plan preparation for urban roadways, rural highway, and freeway projects.

Performance Expectations:

  • Plan, design, and analyze data on municipal engineering projects and be Engineer of Record for deliverables
  • Serve as technical resource and advisor for a team of engineers and designers
  • Prepare studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation
  • Prepare quantities and construction cost estimates
  • Prepare construction drawings
  • Communicate with clients and contractors regarding project issues and attends meetings
  • Assist with defining scope of work, fee, and schedule
  • Assist project manager and engineers in ensuring project/task schedules and budgets are met
  • Perform quality control reviews and checks to ensure compliance with KLJ quality standards
  • Coordinate with technicians to ensure timely and accurate document or drawing preparation
  • Provide construction administration processes and direct on-site construction observation
  • Assist in the management of larger projects or manage smaller projects
  • Collaborate with sales team in pursuit strategies, proposal development, and interviews

Professional Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer in the State of SD, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • 8+ years of experience on surface transportation projects, preferably in SD
  • Knowledge of SDDOT design, construction, and administration procedures
  • Have a broad understanding of roadway design, including roadway elements, hydrology and hydraulics, as well as structures and traffic-related items
  • Occasional to moderate travel may be required
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite software program
  • Proficiency with MicroStation/Geopak, InRoads, and OpenRoads preferred
