Overview

Florida Cancer Affiliates is looking for a full-time Medical Assistant to join our Research team!

This position will support the Ocala locations in Ocala, Florida.

Must be able to travel to satellite offices in Timber Ridge and Lady Lake.

Must have at least one year experience and Phlebotomy skills

Scope:

  • Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians and research coordinators with patient care duties in compliance with research protocol requirements.
  • Screens potential patients for protocol eligibility.
  • Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures including PK blood draws.
  • In collaboration with the physician, reviews patients for changes in condition, adverse events, concomitant medication use, protocol compliance and thoroughly documents all finding.
  • Performs clinic/research support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and scheduling research patient visits, labs, CT scans, eye exams and biopsies.
  • Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards


Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Assists study coordinators with data entry.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician and research staff prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks research lab kits and orders lab kits as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Performs ECGs and collects lab specimen from research patients including PK blood samples.
  • Assists in processing, packing, and shipping of lab specimens to central vendors.
  • Participates in required training, educational programs and monthly research meetings.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc., as requested by supervisor or physician.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants is required. This position requires at least one year of experience as a medical assistant or clinical research assistant. This position may require flexible hours to collect post-treatment lab specimens. Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant.
