This position is located at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.

This position is not eligible for telecommuting.

Essential Functions
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Execute backup software/hardware and recovery strategies.
  • Analyze system logs, identify potential technical issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Research, develop and recommend technical solutions in support of software and hardware sustainment/development activities.
  • Manage system initiatives and new projects being developed or installed.
  • Write scripts to help support critical data reduction applications and streamline functionality during conversion from older to newer platforms.
  • Work directly with Cybersecurity support group verifying cybersecurity compliance.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve errors and alarms, and provide timely escalation to system issues.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating and configuration control procedures.
  • Use and support Virtual Address Extended (VAX) Virtual Memory System (VMS), AIX, Unix, Linux, Ultix, DOS, and Windows operating systems.
  • Actively participate in system initiatives and new projects that are being developed or installed.
  • Actively promote process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, identify, and isolate technical issues.
  • Solid organizational skills, with the ability to work multiple tasks concurrently under moderate oversight in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate complex technical problems concisely and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently to troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, identify, and isolate technical issues. Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work within a team and with customers, including hardware technicians and engineering support groups.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers, superiors, and peers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with routine changing priorities and meet deadlines.
Required Experience
  • Associate's degree in computer science or equivalent technical discipline, related military experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five (5) or more years' experience supporting computers, system administrator, systems security, and networking.
  • Understanding of and experience working with a wide variety of Server and/or workstation platforms using a variety hardware platform using DOS, Windows, Ultrix, AIX, Unix, Linux, and VAX/VMS operating systems
  • Strong understanding of networking - routing, subnets, UDP, TCP, IP and VLANs on various systems (switches/Routers/Gateway interfaces)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
  • Familiarity with Western Range Weather/Meteorological systems, preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Ability to lift equipment and components up to 35 pounds.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to acquire certification within six (6) months of hire date and maintain continuing education requirements. Current certification, preferred.
  • The flexibility to work non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License required.
  • Salary determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement

The hourly rate for this role is determined by a Collective Bargaining Unit and ranges from $34.58 to $43.06. RGNext considers several factors when extending an offer for employment, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training and preferred skills, and knowledge.
