We currently have openingsfor anHVAC/Mechanical engineering specialist intheVehicle Center of Excellence. This is an opportunity to work on a variety of rail vehicle procurements including commuter rail, heavy rail, intercity and light rail. Experience with HVAC and ASHRAE standards is required as well as an understanding of heating and cooling load calculations. Candidate must understand how HVAC load calculations are performed and equipment sizing determined. Experience with rail vehicle HVAC and ventilation applications is desired. Candidate must have a good understanding of design details for ensuring maintenance access, robustness for service, safety features, troubleshooting and passenger comfort criteria. You will assist in providing technical support concerning design reviews, overhaul and/or maintenance and troubleshooting issues for vehiclesas well as supporting mock-up reviews, fist article inspections, qualification testing, and developing documentation such as white papers and analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with design reviews or problem solving on rail vehicle HVAC systems.

  • Prepare HVAC technical specifications for railcar procurements.

  • Travel domestically and internationally to conduct design reviews, first article inspections, witness testing, support failure analysis, and address warranty issues.

  • Support other mechanical systems such as needed to support rail vehicle procurement and overhaul programs.

  • Review and evaluate supplier HVAC designs and load calculations to ensure compliance with Specification and ASHRAE requirements.

  • Preparing technical studies complimented with the use of AutoCAD and 3d models.

  • Spreadsheet and database (MS Excel and Access) development and test data analysis.

  • Preparation of project and design review meeting reports; possibly at client locations.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold ABET accredited four-year Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field.

  • Willing to undertake a very wide variety of tasks and activities, demonstrate flexibility and a desire for a wide range of engineering experiences.

  • Experience in HVAC system design and applications.

  • Fundamental experience with rail vehicle systems.

  • Travel requirements can be up to 25% time for intermittent short periods. Travel is anticipated to be both domestic and international.

  • Opportunities exist for re-location.

  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of the STV and client organizations.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists.

Compensation Range:

$140,352.00 - $187,136.00
