Minimum Qualifications:
- in Ceramics, Design, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Digital Media, Art History, or Photography (or related discipline).
- Ability to credential to teach Ceramics and one or more of the following academic disciplines:
2D Design, 3D Design, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Graphic Design, or Video Production
- Post-secondary teaching experience beyond graduate-level teaching assistant work
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and people skills.
- Established academic or professional career with promise of development, and nationally or internationally recognized research and/or creative scholarship.

Required Ceramics Experience:
- Experienced firing electric, gas, atmospheric kilns.
- Experience with maintaining kilns and ceramic studio equipment (wheels, slab roller, etc.).
- Experience in ordering material and maintaining inventory of materials.
- Experience in teaching glaze calculation and formulation for cone 04, 6 and 10.
- Experience in kiln design and construction.
- Experience in wheel throwing and hand building (Cylinder, Bowl, Lids, Spouts, Pinch, Coil, Slab, Handles).
- Experience in surface decorating techniques.
- Working knowledge of history of ceramics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Learning Management System - Desire to Learn (D2L/MyCourses) preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to an inclusive and rigorous learning environment.
- Ability to work with learners of diverse backgrounds, ages, and educational needs.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and people skills.
- Experience with college service, community outreach and recruiting activities.
- Experience designing curriculum and courses.
- Familiarity with various teaching methodologies /practices, ability to develop activities that enhance and expand classroom instruction, and a passion for student learning.
- Experience teaching in traditional, asynchronous online, and live online environments. (
- Quality Matters and/or ACUE Certification.
- Experience with stationary and handheld power tools.
- Experience staging and hanging artwork for gallery exhibitions.
- Ability to lift 50LBS regularly.
- Experience with documenting and editing digital images of 2D and 3D art objects.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Expectations:
- Teach existing and develop new multidisciplinary undergraduate art courses in creative, art studio practice including Ceramics and Design.
- Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity-in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation-through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
- Effectiveness in academic assignment; service to department and college committees; and continuing creative and professional activity are required to achieve continuing contract and promotion.

- Teach four (4) courses each semester Fall & Spring. Can teach two (2) supplemental courses in the summer. 15-15-0 contract.
- The expected start date for the position is August 2024.
Position Summary:
A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the college in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the college, and continuing professional development.
Requirements:
Education: Master of Fine Arts degree.
Experience: College level teaching experience required. Related work experience preferred for technical programs.
