Moffatt & Nichol's dynamic Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation (MEI) team is growing! We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with 4 to 6 years of power distribution experience in our West Palm Beach, FL office. As the successful new hire, you will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally. Projects include: ports, cargo terminals, shipyards, large and small marinas, port authority, and municipal. In addition, you will work on new technologies and developing industries from microgrids to projects in the offshore wind industry!

Horizontal electrical design is different from that of buildings, commercial and industrial properties. It will provide you with new knowledge, challenge, and career growth. We are looking forward to mentoring and developing your skills in the growing horizontal / infrastructure market! You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program. Thus, growing your skills beyond the state and country for which you work.

As the successful new hire, you will join a highly collaborative international team of Electrical Engineers. You will not only work on projects in the State of Florida but beyond! This diverse project experience will help grow your knowledge and expertise outside of your local region. You will work with team members locally and across the company. You will also work with team members from other disciplines to integrate your designs and complete highly technical projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Completes electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates
  • Provides design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for the following but not limited to:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Communications systems
    • Control Systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Electrical calculations, selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Prepares detailed contract documents, studies and cost estimates
  • Perform construction management activities such as submittal reviews and construction observations for electrical work on projects
  • Assist in companywide Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Master's degree in Electrical Engineer is preferred
  • Engineer in Training Certification within 1 year of hire
  • 4 to 6 years of related experience in:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit is required
  • Proficiency ETAP or EasyPower and AGI32 preferred
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • Ability and willingness to travel to local job sites and occasionally other Moffatt & Nichol offices
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical demands:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
