crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers
lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or
disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 25 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity
and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure.


Internship Overview:

R&P stands for Reception and Placement; it is the resettlement program that all refugees
receive from the federal government (PRM). IRC is one of the resettlement agencies that
issues the R&P funds and completes the R&P services on behalf of the US govt. There are
a number of services that IRC is required to provide, including airport pickup, housing,
employment, documentation, school enrollment, cultural orientation, public transportation
orientation, and much more. All of these services must be completed within 90 days of a
client's arrival.


Matching Grant (MG) is an employment/self-sufficiency program funded by the Office of
Refugee Resettlement. It supports clients for up to 8 months from their arrival to the US
with financial assistance, including housing and pocket cash, and job search assistance.
Clients receive intensive case management from their IRC caseworker at this time as well.
They are required to apply for jobs and attend IRC sponsored employment events, such as
job readiness training. The goal of the program is for the clients to gain independence and
self-sufficiency.


Responsibilities:


The R&P Intern assists caseworkers as they guide clients through their initial resettlement period
in the US.
* Interns will support the completion of the R&P core services, services that IRC is
contractually obligated to fulfill within a client's initial 90 days in the US. Some of these
services include filing benefits applications, school enrollment, public transportation
orientations, scheduling client health appointments, changing client primary care
providers, assisting with documentation and filing, and other assistance when necessary.
* Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

* Excellent communication and writing skills
* Organized with attention to detail
* Able to work independently and under pressure
* An interest in international issues
* Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multi-cultural setting
* Computer literacy - preferably with PC systems
* Must pass a background check ($51.00 fee)
* Must be at least 18 years old
* Must attend IRC volunteer orientation training
* Must commit to at least 15 hours a week and report to the Tallahassee office.

Please note that this is an unpaid, hybrid internship that will be based in Tallahassee, Florida.
