Collegiate High School - Teacher Job Description

Position Summary: Develop engaging curricula, including experiments and other scientific investigations; present lessons; and evaluate student performance. Evaluate student progress and the ability to meet courses standards in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Set and enforce guidelines for classroom behavior and arrange parent-teacher conferences when needed.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

  • Plan and prepare instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional materials to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
  • Establish short- and long-range goals based on student needs and District and state curriculum. Identify, select, and modify instructional materials to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
  • Oversees the development of long-and short-term goals and processes to ensure that each classroom focuses on the Collegiate High Schools student expectations and goals.
  • Participates in the analysis of data and the development and implementation of the school improvement plan.
  • Sets clear targets that can be measured by results and monitors progress towards goals.
  • Helps align school initiatives with the accreditation standards, SPC graduation requirements and Pinellas County Schools'/state high school graduation requirements.

SCHOOL CLIMATE AND THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

  • Use evidenced based classroom management strategies.
  • Sponsors clubs and activities to promote social engagement and leadership.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and parents after recognizing student distress or abuse and take appropriate action based on school procedures and law.
  • Align classroom procedures that focus on the whole child by considering social, emotional, character and mindset initiatives.
  • Assists in ensuring a safe, nurturing, and effective learning environment for staff and students.
  • Assists with conducting information sessions and providing information about Collegiate High Schools to potential parents and students.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PROCESS MANAGEMENT

  • Apply evidence-based teaching practices in instructional delivery
  • Participates in effective school-based professional development to improve academic performance results.
  • Assists with the development of school goals and monitors data to ensure goal attainment.
  • Utilize a variety of technology to engage and meet the needs to students.
  • Design activities and lesson plans that are challenging and relevant to the goals and objectives of the class.
  • Use appropriate strategies and techniques to enhance critical thinking skills in students.
  • Uses systems that examine the school/classroom performance level and improvement trends in highest student achievement and safe learning environment.
  • Classroom/school accountability for results aligned to all school and college strategic directions.
  • Engage in a continuing quest for personal growth through in service, classes, and study
  • Model professional and ethical conduct when dealing with students, peers, parents, and the community
  • Perform and fulfill all professional responsibilities

LEADERSHIP

  • Assists in the development of student improvement plans that are aligned to the Vision Mission and Values of Collegiate High Schools and St. Petersburg College.
  • Assists with the development of a Professional Development plan aligned to school and college strategic initiatives, goals, program evaluation and accreditation.
  • Effectively participates in the MTSS, EL Committees, communicates data, and collaborates with teachers to ensure students' needs and achievement goals are met.
  • Is knowledgeable about evidenced-based instructional strategies for high school students including dual enrollment. Supports Collegiate High Schools and SPC's goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Plan and prepare instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences

INFORMAITON AND ANALYSIS

  • Monitors and communicates assessment results data to stakeholders including formative, summative, and cycle assessments related to state testing.
  • Contributes to an information system that supports the accomplishment of Collegiate High Schools goals and student expectations. Helps school personnel use data to make decisions to individualize and improve instruction.
  • Uses comparison, trend, and benchmark data to assess the rate of school/classroom improvement.
  • Interpret data for diagnosis, instructional planning, and program evaluation.
  • Establish appropriate testing environment and test security.

CERTIFICATION

Required: High School 6-12 in any of the following fields: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Robotics, Business Education, or Computer Science.

EDUCATION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Possession of (or eligible for) a valid regular Florida teaching certificate in any field. At least three (3) years of successful teaching in at the high school level.

Applicant must be able to pass a Level 2 background check through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and a reference check prior to being hired.

PREFERRED:

Master's degree. Demonstrated understanding of the:

  • MTSS Rti Model, EL and 504 processes
  • Evidence base learning strategies to differential instruction for high school students Integration of technology with curriculum and instruction.
