Job Description

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will design, develop and support fabrication of tooling, jigs, and fixtures used to test, manufacture, and assemble advanced developmental space products. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the manufacturing of these products by providing rapid tooling support for emergent production needs. You will work directly with the manufacturing team to create, test, and troubleshoot new tooling and processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptual and detailed design of tooling and fixtures for the manufacture/assembly of large and small scale assemblies, mechanical systems, human support systems.
  • Produce drawing packages for fabrication and assembly of tooling and fixture designs.
  • Detailed hand calc and FEM analysis of primary and secondary tooling structure.
  • Documentation of stress analysis to support the release of Tool engineering drawings/documents.
  • Support development of detailed tooling labor and cost estimates.
  • Participate in vendor evaluation, selection, and management.
  • Support development of processes and procedures for manufacturing
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to identify and incorporate changes to component designs that promote efficient, accurate fabrication and assembly.
  • Coordinate directly with technical personnel to plan and support GSE maintenance activities to ensure equipment availability and operational safety.
  • Oversee commissioning of tools and equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance and support in the implementation and use of tooling by production personnel.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or higher in mechanical, structural or other relevant engineering field.
  • 5-12+ years of experience designing tooling used in the manufacture, assembly, and test of aerospace hardware or large-scale equipment.
  • Experience performing static and fatigue analysis utilizing both classical and FEM methodology.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Optistruct, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna.
  • Experience managing contractors during the design, fabrication, and installation phases of the tooling and equipment design process.
  • Experience selecting and implementing tools and equipment that facilitate access and ease of manufacturing with the goal of streamlining hardware manufacturing and assembly.
  • Experience developing procedures for checkout, commissioning, and maintenance of fixtures and tooling.
  • 2-5 experience with Catia V5 or Creo for producing 3D models and drawings.
  • Familiar with applicable ASME standards, such as ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with minimum guidance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Master degree in manufacturing or mechanical design
  • Experience with Windchill and Catia/Creo
  • Experience working with ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling
