POSITION SUMMARY: The position is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of personal and commercial claims of moderate complexity, including dispute resolution and/or recovery. This position requires successful completion of Citizens Fundamentals Claims School, which includes obtaining an overall passing score.

- Models ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
- Negotiates and settle claims in accordance with Citizens Best Claims Practices and Estimating Guidelines and industry standards.
- Demonstrates proficiency in conducting investigations, damage assessments and utilizing estimating software.
- Researches, analyzes and interprets policy contracts and state statutes as it applies to submitted claims.
- Documents all relevant information in the electronic claims management system.
- Contributes to the business production goals and objectives.
- Trains, mentors and guides less experienced staff as needed.
- Participates in workload surges and/or catastrophe response as needed, to include mandated overtime during specific catastrophic events. May assist other Business Units as needed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated working knowledge to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and department operational guidelines in daily functions.
- Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to recognize problematic situations and put into effect creative solutions
- Ability to work independently, multi-task and adapt to frequent priority changes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows environment.
- Possesses strong customer service skills.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate's degree OR two (2) years relevant experience OR a combination of college education and experience equivalent to two (2) years.
AND
- 2 or more years of experience handling claims.
- Must possess a valid, active and appropriate Florida adjuster license within 90 days of employment and maintain it as a condition of continued employment. Appointment required.
- Within 90 days of employment, must successfully complete all requirements of Citizens Fundamental Claims School which includes obtaining an overall passing score.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or field with skills transferable to insurance.
- 4 or more years of experience handling claims.
- Active Florida Adjuster license (620 or 644).
- Xactimate proficiency.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to sit, hear, converse over the telephone and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day). Position may require the ability to be mobile, operate a motor vehicle, climb roofs and inspect homes including attics and crawl spaces. This position may require occasional overnight travel during catastrophe response; and may be required to work for extended periods of time to include after standard business hours in addition to weekends and holidays during a catastrophe response, or as needed.
