Orange County Fire Rescue is charged with all fire suppression, field EMS/Rescue, fire code enforcement, permit procedures, and public education tasks in the charter (unincorporated) county area. If necessary, law enforcement agencies are inserted into the investigation process. It is with pride, dedication, and professionalism that members of Orange County Fire Rescue Department (OCFRD) serve the citizens of Orange County.

The new millennium has brought OCFRD to a new level of excellence. For such a young department of 25 years, we have grown in excess of 933 highly qualified emergency response personnel and 166 administrative support staff, handling over 88,095 emergency calls just this past year 2005. In addition, we have implemented a state-of-the-art "Computer Aided Dispatch" system (CAD), "Mobile Data Technology" (MDT), "Live Streaming Video Training" connected to all 39 fire station locations, and the activation of our first emergency transport helicopter, "FireStar".

Other areas of advancement include "Live Video Downlink" for disaster information and tracking, "Firewise Communities" citizen education program, and the ongoing "Recruitment/Training" of certified and non-certified personnel. All our Emergency Response Units are now equipped with LifePak12 Cardiac Monitors, AED's in all staff vehicles, and Automated Vehicle Location (AVL).
